RIP Houdini

I didn’t think this would be my next post tonight but as I browsed some pictures, a few of our beloved dog Houdini caught my eye. As many already know, Houdini was struck and killed by a car in New Westminster over Christmas this past winter. He was our loyal companion for over 11 years and he left our lives as suddenly as he entered it. SQUIRREL! This was his obsession, his amusement as well as ours. He was the very best travel companion. He accompanied us on bush work, hikes behind UNBC in Prince George, trips across Canada and trips to the grocery store. There was no other dog like him. He was gentle, curious, loving, athletic, loyal. He would be found at your feet or by your side, quietly enjoying your company. He would also be found around the neighbourhood! Many times I would ask “Where’s Houdini” and find him to be within arms reach. Many times I would ask “Where’s Houdini” and find no trace of him! His exploits are legendary and I’m sure I only know the half of it! From popping boards to escape our backyard in PG to disappearing overnight in the Gatineau Hills to bounding into the woods in the depths of winter at the park in Dawson Creek, he always lived up to his name. His moniker befitted the truly remarkable dog that he was. Houdini was our best friend. We miss him dearly and rejoice in the companionship, humour, energy and love with which he filled our lives. Bye fuzzman, you’re the best.

I’m back, I think…

I enjoy blogging. No really, I do. However, as I look back at my various blogs it would seem the opposite. I have not posted in over a year, close to a year, or in my earliest blog’s case, several years (that one was planned). Life has been busy, hectic, full of things and stuff…yada, yada, yada. Trying to piece together years gone by to give the world an update is seemingly impossible, so at this point I will not try. What I will attempt, is to write, regularly, in the present. That’s all I’ll say, I’ll try.
